Wanderup Local History Museum

Tarper Str. 17, 24997 Wanderup

The Wanderup Local History Museum, founded in 1971, is a living testimony to the preservation of regional history. It offers a fascinating journey through time from the village way of life around 1800 to the middle of the 20th century. Village history comes to life in the carefully designed rooms of the historic school building from 1859 and in the outdoor area. Old trades such as blacksmithing, cooperage, goldsmithing and saddlery are illustrated with tools and workbenches. A collection of small animals from the local wildlife, household appliances, textiles and everyday objects provide an insight into past lifestyles. The development of agriculture is documented by large-scale equipment in the steam room and in the outdoor area. The special exhibition "Dial telephones" in summer 2025 presents a collection of classic telephones, including the W28 desk telephone and the rare TlnMü55b payphone. The Wanderup Local History Museum is located directly on the 54 km long Lake District Cycle Route, which leads through the picturesque landscape around the Wanderup Lake District. Guided tours outside opening hours are possible. The Wanderup Local History Museum: a living testimony to the history of the village and old crafts, an ideal stop on the Lakeland Cycle Route. Admission is free.
