St. Johannis Church Malente-Neukirchen
St. Johannis Church in Malente-Neukirchen is a historical gem and a living testimony to the past. As the Vicelin Church, named after St. Vicelin, it is part of a group of churches built in the 12th century after the conquest of Wagrien. Its architecture is impressive: a single-nave hall building in the Romanesque style, built from field stones and crowned by a 40-metre-high round tower that looks out over the countryside. St. John's Church has survived the centuries, defying storms, rain, frost and heat and requires regular renovation work to preserve its beauty. Inside, it contains remarkable works of art: a life-size statue of a saint, probably from the 16th century, adorns the south wall. A Gothic triumphal cross from the 14th century and a goblet-shaped baptismal font made of granite from the 12th century are further highlights. The pulpit, donated by two inhabitants of Neukirchen in 1626, bears a Low German inscription. St. Johannis Church in Malente-Neukirchen is more than just a building - it is a place for reflection and thinking about the really important things in life.
