St. Bartholomew's Church Wilster

Am Markt 12a, 25554 Wilster

St. Bartholomew's Church in Wilster is an architectural gem with a deep-rooted history. The first mention of this impressive church dates back to 1163, when it was recorded in a document from the Neumünster monastery. Today's church, built between 1775 and 1780 by the renowned architect Ernst Georg Sonnin, who is also responsible for the magnificent St. Michael's Church in Hamburg, is a living monument to the past. A remarkable feature of St. Bartholomew's Church is the tower of the old church, which was integrated into the new building and raised by four meters to 52 meters thanks to an impressive feat of engineering. Inside the church, the atmosphere is one of simplicity and brightness, rooted in the Baroque tradition. St. Bartholomew's Church is not only a place of worship, but also a place that awakens a fascination for history and architecture. A visit in the early hours of the morning, when the sunlight streams through the windows and bathes the church in a magical light, is particularly recommended.
