Shipping archive Rendsburg
The archive/museum shows a comprehensive picture of shipping since the 1940s on 550 square meters and thus provides an interesting insight into an important part of the town's history. Particularly noteworthy here is Rendsburg's location on an island on the Eider River, which ensured early on that the inhabitants used the river as a transport route. The Rendsburg Shipping Archive is a museum that documents the history of inland shipping in northern Germany. The first floor shows the beginnings of the Rendsburg shipping companies, while the second floor is largely devoted to the development of the Karl Schlüter shipping company. Here, the models of the modern container ships are particularly eye-catching. Under the roof, visitors experience the atmosphere of an old shipyard. The exhibits come from Nübbel, which was home to at least five shipyards in the century before last. The Schifffahrtsarchiv also offers the possibility to celebrate private events for up to 30 people in the conference room on the second floor.
