Schleswig-Holstein Landesmuseen Schloss Gottorf
Gottorf Castle is located on an island in the innermost corner of the Schlei. There was a fortress here during the Middle Ages. Today, the high baroque castle houses two museums, providing testimonies from 120,000 years of human history. The collections of the State Museum of Art and Art History range from the Middle Ages to contemporary art. The Archaeological State Museum shows findings from the Neanderthals to the Middle Ages, including the Iron Age “Nydam Boat” and the famous bog bodies.
