Prince House

Schlossgebiet 10, 24306 Plön

In the 18th century, the complex was extended by various additions and conversions. Between 1745 and 1751, for example, a rococo palace was built to the west of the main palace, probably according to plans by J.G. Rosenberg. The two-story complex with a slightly protruding central risalit was built for Duke Friedrich Carl. Colossal pilasters divide the facade of the building. The sandstone bases and capitals stand out effectively against the brick architecture. With its rich interior decoration with stuccowork and paintings, the so-called Prinzenhaus is one of the main works of rococo in Schleswig-Holstein. Today, the extensively restored building is owned by the German Foundation for the Protection of Monuments and is open to the public for cultural purposes.
