Old brickworks Borgwedel nature experience area

The fascinating history of brick production comes to life at the Alte Ziegelei Borgwedel nature experience area, idyllically situated on the Schlei. Until 1956, millions of bricks were produced here and shipped all over the Nordic region. Today, the clay extraction sites and foundations of the drying sheds still bear witness to this industrial past. Since the closure of the brickworks, nature has developed undisturbed and created a unique ecosystem with dense forest and wooded banks. A circular trail with twelve informative boards leads through this impressive landscape and tells the story of brick production and life at the brickworks. For those who want to experience brick production at first hand, the small hand-painted brickworks offers the opportunity to lend a hand. A boules court provides additional fun and exercise. The Alte Ziegelei Borgwedel nature experience area is accessible all year round and is ideal for group activities, school classes and anyone with a passion for nature and history.
