Eutin castle garden
The first beginnings of the garden are documented around the year 1500, and from 1716, in keeping with the spirit of the times, a luxurious French Baroque garden was created. However, already 60 years later, the fundamental redesign and expansion to an English landscape garden, which became "en vogue" at that time, began, with numerous special trees from all over the world, curved paths, little temples, waterfall, Chinese bridge and romantic view axes to the lake. It has remained almost unchanged to this day, except that the trees have now become magnificent giants. For almost 200 years, the Duke's Garden has also been open to the public. Separately demarcated in the garden there is also a kitchen garden with an orangery, a New Holland house, a show kitchen and various wonderfully cultivated useful plantations (medicinal herbs, old varieties, wine, kettle trees). Today, the garden is listed as one of the most important works of garden art in northern Germany. In 2015, it was extensively renovated. You can learn about the philosophy behind this many-hectare, listed gem, what botanical features it holds, what a kitchen garden is all about, and much more on a guided tour by the Eutin tourist information office. In addition, numerous educational programs are held here for children.
