Charlotte mill
Charlotte Mill, an architectural landmark of the Conservation area Geltinger Birk, welcomes visitors at the entrance to the Geltinger Noor nature reserve. Originally built in 1826 by cavalry captain von Hobe from the Gelting estate, this earthen mill was used to drain the Noor and process grain. Together with another mill, it pumped the groundwater from the surrounding fields into the Baltic Sea. The mill was named in honor of Charlotte von Plessen, a born Duchess of Mecklenburg, who died at Gelting Castle in 1822. Today, Charlotte's mill is privately owned and has been lovingly converted into a comfortable vacation home. A visit to this historic building offers a fascinating insight into the past and the cultural significance of the region.
