Chain ferry fishing lodge
The last remaining chain ferry of the canal - the chain ferry Fischerhütte - ended its working day on February 21, 1990. For 40 years, guided by a chain, it had connected the two sides of the Kiel Canal. The chain ferry Fischerhütte then lay on the shore for another two years before it came ashore as a technical monument. In 1950, the keel of the chain ferry Fischerhütte was laid at the Saatsee shipyard in Rendsburg under the designation SF 80. With a length of 23.5 meters and a width of 9 meters, the chain ferry Fischerhütte had a draft of 90 centimeters. On the south side of the canal, the chain ferry Fischerhütte now looks back on its old workplace and cordially invites visitors to view the canal with it from a pedestal. The ferry's chain drive is visible through a glass insert in the base. Right next to the ferry is an idyllic garden café that invites visitors to linger during the summer months.
