Castle island in Lake Rantzau
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Schleswig-Holstein, an enchanting gem is hidden on Lake Rantzau: Rantzau Castle Island. Over a cobblestone bridge, visitors enter a world that gives the impression that time has paused here. The listed ensemble on the island is unique in the region. It houses the studio of artist Karin Weißenbacher in the historic court clerk's house, a coach house full of arts and crafts and an inhabited manor house that was once a castle. The "Royal District Court" is now the Rantzau County Museum, and the former castle prison invites visitors to linger with peace, cake and art. The watermill, whose wheels have been driven by the water of the lake for almost 500 years, now offers pottery for creative people. If you want to experience the idyllic setting from the water, you can hire a rowing boat or walk around the lake on the lakeside hiking trail. Schlossinsel Rantzau is a place that combines history, culture and nature in a unique way and transports visitors back in time. A visit is worthwhile at any time of year, although spring is particularly attractive with its blooming splendor.
