Bültsee nature reserve

Unnamed Road, 24354 Kosel

The Bültsee nature reserve, located 6 km northwest of Eckernförde, is a remarkable natural jewel and is one of the last nutrient-poor lakes in Schleswig-Holstein and the whole of Germany. Lake Bültsee owes its formation to the last ice age, when it was formed as a dead ice hole. With no inflow or outflow, it is fed exclusively by groundwater. This unique lake is home to a large number of plant species that only thrive in nutrient-poor waters, including water lobelia, breamwort, beach lilies and alternate-flowered milfoil. The banks of the Bültsee also serve as a breeding area for the little ringed plover. The surrounding areas of the lake, which belong to the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation, are grazed by Galloways from the Bunde Wischen eG farm. This grazing helps to keep the shoreline vegetation short and thus promote the growth of the rare species. Since 1982, the Bültsee and the adjacent areas, 55 hectares in total, have been a nature reserve. A bathing area on the western shore invites you to refresh yourself. A visit to the Bültsee nature reserve offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of nature.
