Bargen ferry
The Bargen ferry, a charming passenger and bicycle ferry, offers an unforgettable experience in the idyllic Eider-Treene-Sorge river landscape. Situated between the picturesque towns of Friedrichstadt, Husum, Heide, Schleswig and Rendsburg, the ferry has a long history dating back to 1554. Back then, it connected the towns of Erfde-Bargen and Delve-Schwienhusen across the 108-metre-wide Eider. Despite an interruption due to the construction of a road bridge in 1961, the ferry connection was revived in 2001 under the motto "Ferry connects people and regions". Today, the Bargen ferry is an important part of tourism in the Eider-Treene-Sorge region and attracts an average of 5,000 visitors every year. From the beginning of May to the end of September, the ferry offers trips across the Eider, with pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair users and baby carriages all welcome. A trip on the Bargen ferry is not just a journey across a river, but also a journey through the rich history of this region, where tradition and nature merge in a unique way.
