Old pilot station Nübbel

These were built between 1895 and 1962 and served as accommodation for pilots on the Kiel Canal until it was replaced by the new Rüsterbergen pilot station in 1995. It subsequently stood empty for a long time and was in the process of falling into disrepair before it was taken over by a private investor and converted into condominiums and is now a listed building. The location at the center of the Kiel Canal is due to the division of the canal into a western and eastern section. Since ships passing through the canal have to change pilots as they pass, the station makes it possible to change pilots.
