Christ Church Wahlstedt

The Christus-Kirche in Wahlstedt, an architectural gem from 1953 designed by Hamburg architect Arendt, is a place of peace and reflection. Originally part of the Segeberger congregation, it became home to believers from Wahlstedt, Wittenborn and Fahrenkrug in 1954. The red brick church, surrounded by an idyllic woodland cemetery and a church forecourt redesigned in 2004, is a place of community and faith. A walk through the Bible garden and the memorial on the way to the cemetery offers an opportunity for reflection. Inside the church, a clear view of the freestanding sandstone altar to the east opens up through the main entrance to the west. The impressive crucifix by Otto Flath from 1954, flanked by reliefs depicting biblical scenes, catches the eye. The pulpit, also a work by Flath, shows the four evangelists, symbolized by the angel, lion, sacrificial bull and eagle. Other highlights include the wall hanging with the rainbow, a work of art by Gudrun Kunz and Elise Lemke, and the liturgical candelabra in the baptistery, created by Konrad Tischler in 2005. Christus-Kirche Wahlstedt is a place of both cultural and historical significance.
