Café Bishop's Hostel
The bishop's hostel dates from around 1230 and is picturesquely situated at the foot of Ratzeburg Cathedral. It is the oldest preserved (almost) secular building in Schleswig-Holstein outside Lübeck. In 800 years, apart from a reconstruction around 1653, it has undergone only four minor transformations. Even the building substance from the late renaissance reconstruction is very special for Ratzeburg, because the city itself was completely destroyed during the siege in 1693.
After extensive renovation work, the Bischofsherberge now offers an exceptional setting for a café serving homemade cakes and pies. The Café Bischofsherberge is run by the Vorwerker Diakonie, and people with and without disabilities work here together.
We look forward to your visit.
